Geriatric care and “deprescribing” are hot topics on The People’s Pharmacy this weekend
Geriatric care and Deprescribing: Sometimes the potential benefits of a medication do not outweigh the risks. Older adults, in particular, must be informed consumers because some commonly prescribed drugs can be potentially inappropriate. This is where “deprescribing” comes into play. Dr. Laura Hanson, director of the Palliative Care Program at UNC-Chapel Hill and a Senior PharmAssist board member, and Dr. Mitch Heflin, senior fellow in the Center for the Study of Aging and Human Development at Duke who is working with us on the Duke Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP), will discuss this important topic this weekend on The People’s Pharmacy. The People’s Pharmacy, hosted by Joe and Terry Graedon, is heard locally on WUNC 91.5 at 7 a.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday.
