We believe that all individuals - regardless of political affiliation, skin tone, or anything else - deserve the right to age with dignity. We believe that in order to serve the Durham community with any level of credibility, we need a diverse staff and board of directors that guide and implement our programs so that everyone feels welcome and included. In addition, we believe that some individuals need more assistance than others due to their circumstances - most beyond their control. We support policies that move us towards opportunities for all to live well as they age in Durham. This will not change.
Your long-standing endorsement and support for our work has kept us strong and with your continued support, we have no plans to slow down! |

Staff and Board at a recent retreat

Ms. J visited our office recently to see if we might replace her blood pressure monitor that had stopped working. We hadn't seen her in a few years and explained that we are happy to provide a new monitor if she reengaged with our medication therapy management (MTM) sessions. At first, she declined stating concerns about transportation and then shared she was worried about her finances and access to food. Fortunately, we were able to arrange a ride with Uber Health. Once here, we realized she was likely eligible for Medicaid despite having worked for the State and having retiree coverage via the State Health Plan. We also helped her apply for a monthly SNAP (supplemental nutrition assistance program) benefit.
She needed more than a blood pressure monitor. Hopefully, she won't hesitate to reach out in the future - despite it being difficult to ask for help. |

Gina Upchurch listed as Honoree for the 13th Annual Lincoln Community Health Center Foundation Legacy Award! |
For years, the Senior PharmAssist staff has worked closely with the Lincoln Community Health Center (LCHC) pharmacy, medical and social work teams to support older adults in Durham. We are always surprised to learn that many don’t know about the LCHC “gem” in Durham even though they serve over 37,000 mostly un- or underinsured residents every year. Gina emphasizes that we could not concentrate on what we do if LCHC wasn’t doing such an amazing job of providing primary care, prevention and even specialty care (via Project Access of Durham County) in Durham. Dr. Cheryl Brewer, the Senior PharmAssist Board President, encourages everyone to attend or donate as we know that investing in LCHC means a better quality of life and improved outcomes for thousands of our neighbors. Please join us to celebrate what is happening in Durham! Online registration and sponsorship opportunities are Here
